6/23/2009 Send us a note telling us of the wonderful and selfless ways you are giving back in your community or to help a Service Member or Military Family. We will post it here, possible help build some support for your efforts and post pictures. Together we can make a lasting difference. Please also find the opportunity to get involved with these people in your local area.
I am the organizer and current President of the Northern Fairfield County chapter (CT4) of Blue Star Mothers. I have two sons and a daughter-in-law who are Captains in the Army. They have most recently been deployed to Iraq (Jim for 14 months ending 5/2009) and Afghanistan (Dave and Ann for 10 months ended in 12/2008). My husband and I have supported not only our children but numerous other brave sons and daughters who have been deployed in harms way. We started sending "CARE" packages in October 2002 when our younger son was a plebe at West Point and our daughter-in-law was preparing for her first deployment to Iraq. It has been a long 7 years and the toll on the troops physically, mentally and spiritually is astronomical at times. What little that we each can do to support these men and women is greatly appreciated. The more people remember that they are out there and are willing to lend a hand and held out or donate to one of our drives the better off everyone will be. Whatever support you can get for the small groups out in the local communities, while informing more families that we are here for them will be greatly appreciated. We continually strive to raise funds and make the public aware that we exist.
